In the journey toward whole body healing, addressing pelvic health concerns is a vital step that often requires open communication with your healthcare provider. Navigating this conversation can sometimes feel daunting but with the right guidance, it becomes an empowering experience for both you and your doctor. I am going to break down the process to help make you feel more confident and informed during this important conversation.

 You should never have to suffer through any health concern that arises and it is imperative to differentiate what is “common” vs. what is “normal”. Many people mistakenly believe that issues with the pelvic floor are just something women have to deal with as they get older, especially if they've had children. The good news is that pelvic floor dysfunction is NOT a normal part of aging and can be treated successfully with the right care.

 Understanding the Importance of Pelvic Health

 Before delving into the conversation, it’s crucial to recognize the significance of pelvic health. The pelvic region plays a central role in various bodily functions, affecting not only physical but also emotional aspects of well-being. From reproductive health to urinary and bowel functions, the pelvic area is a complex network that demands attention and care. Additionally, the pelvic region, including musculature goes through changes throughout the lifespan- puberty, menopause, pregnancy and postpartum.

You may want to repeat back some information for further explanation and that is ok- ask as many times as you feel you need to make sure the information is clear.

You should feel seen, heard and understood during all interactions with your provider- if this is not the case it is ok to reach out for a second (or third-fourth) opinion until it feels right for you.
